With Rusting Powder you can very quickly achieve a rusty look on most surfaces including wood, paint, paper, fabric, etc. Just sprinkle some rusting powder on your surface and gently mist with water, lemon juice or white vinegar.

1. Adhere the powder to any surface by sprinkling into a wet glue liberally. Allow to dry
Do not embed powder in the glue, the powder needs to be exposed in order to rust
2. Spritz with water, and keep damp by spritzing regularly (hourly) for 3-4 hours or until the rusty color you like is achieved (orange through to deep brown).
To speed up this process, add some acid, such as lemon juice or vinegar to the water

Rusting powder

"I have better luck using it with vinegar. I watched a video and someone used peroxide with it. I know you can rust with vinegar, peroxide and salt. I am going to try some of this powder with peroxide and see the results. Using water gave an ok base for paper. Can’t wait to use with junk journals."

This is lovely, but it's work

"I enjoy using this but it does take time and can be a little tricky. I had some trouble getting it to work with just water but vinegar did the trick. I do wish that Paper Artsy products had better directions on the packaging and this effect does take longer than using a rust embossing powder, but it is a specific mixed media look that is worth having on hand."
